Chaperone Policy

Chaperone Policy

At The Linden Medical Group, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and comfortable environment for all patients and staff. Your dignity, privacy, and safety are very important to us, and we follow best practice guidance at all times.

What is a chaperone?

A chaperone is a person who can be present during a consultation, examination, or procedure to provide support and reassurance. Chaperones are often used during intimate or sensitive examinations, but you may request one for any appointment if you wish.

Your right to a chaperone

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present if they would like one.

  • The chaperone can be a family member or friend, or

  • You may prefer a trained member of our practice staff to act as a formal chaperone.

In some situations, the healthcare professional may also request that a chaperone is present.

How to request a chaperone

If you think you would like a chaperone, please let us know when booking your appointment wherever possible. This helps us make arrangements and avoids any unnecessary delay on the day. You can also request a chaperone when you arrive for your appointment.

What does a chaperone do?

Depending on the situation, a chaperone’s role may include:

  • Providing emotional support and reassurance

  • Assisting during an examination or procedure

  • Helping with dressing or undressing if required

  • Supporting communication, for example as an interpreter

  • Acting as an impartial observer to support both the patient and the healthcare professional

Our commitment

All staff at The Linden Medical Group are aware of and trained in our Chaperone Policy. Formal chaperones are appropriately trained and understand their responsibilities.

Information about our Chaperone Policy is available:

  • On our website

  • In patient information leaflets
